Lucknow Hotels

Lucknow, the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This city is also known as the city of Nawabs, where nawabs means the ancient rulers of this city. This city is famous for the way guests are treated and for the courteous behaviour of its people. Lucknow, was formerly named Avadh or Oudh, it was the centre of the Nawabs. The city lies near the Gompti river. Most of the historical monuments are located in the north-western part of the old city.

Lonavala Hotels

Lonavala is an important hill station in the state of Maharashtra. It is popularly known as the jewel of the Sahyadri Mountains. Lonavala is set amongst the sylvan hills of the Western Ghats and is a popular gateway from Mumbai and Pune. It also serves as a starting point for tourists interested in visiting the famous, ancient Buddhist rock cut caves of Bhaja and Karla, which are located near this hill station. It also has an important Yoga center near it, for the health conscious traveler.

Leh and Ladakh Hotels

Ladakh’s inaccessibility and harsh environment ensured its unique character was preserved for centuries, but its position at the crossroads of Asia meant it would never be completely isolated from the rest of the world. In Roman times, Leh was an important trading post feeding into the Silk Road, and later fell victim to 16th century marauders, eyes greedily set on the local pashmina trade. In the 1950s, China annexed part of the region – even building a road to facilitate the occupation while India wasn’t looking. Not intending to make the same mistake twice, India’s military presence in the area now seems to dwarf the local population.

Lakshadweep Hotels

The charm of the Lakshadweep Islands is their remote pristine splendour; they attract no merrymakers to their shores. Or, perhaps, it is the beauty of the islands, densely covered with coconut palms, and threaded by an unbroken line of creamy sand, each island serenely set in a sea whose waters range from palest aquamarine and turquoise to deepest sapphire and lapis lazuli. Yet again, it may be that their unique charm lies in the fact that each island, a tiny principality in itself, has existed from time immemorial, with little influence from the outside world.

Kolkata Hotels

A city of Joy and Love, Grandeur and Glory... Kolkata alias Calcutta is full of life and bustle, verging on the chaotic as traditional occupations rub shoulders with ultra modern industries.

Kolkata is India's second largest city and the capital of West Bengal, situated at the point where the Indian subcontinent starts to narrow into the triangular southern peninsula. Formerly the capital of British India (1772-1912), it is a city with a great deal of charm - its imperial monuments, strong cultural and religious flavour leaves an indelible impression on the visitor.

Kodaikanal Hotels

Kodaikanal is one of the beautiful hill station in India , it is unique rows and rows of silky pine trees sloping down to clear, cold streams, spectacular views which suddenly disappear in foamy mist, people bundled up in sweaters and overcoats this is certainly not everyone’s mental image of India. To be sure there are other hill stations, but most of them have been smothered by urban development. We seek peace and quiet in a hill station, not the noise and fumes of factories. Hopefully the powers-that-be will not allow kodaikanal to become “spoilt”. .

Khajuharo Hotels

The temples of Khajuraho are not about the usual worshipping and religious rites performed to the deities but more about the courtly arts, love and passion. These unique 10th-11th century temples are famous for their erotic sculptures and carvings on the walls and present quite an éclat mix of architectural science and art. Related to Chandela dynasty founded by Chandravarman, it is said that he, to fulfill the dream of his mother Hemvati, built these temples. It is said that he was the illegitimate son of this Brahmin girls and the Moon God. The temple was meant to display all aspects of passion and erotic fantasy, which the Moon God is often associated with (in Hindu mythology) that rocks the world. Khajuraho was then the capital of Chandravarman. The temples are believed to have introduced an artistic revolution

Kashmir Hotels

No state in India is more captivating than Kashmir. To the admirer of nature, it offers scenes of grandeur almost unrivaled. It is a place where people of great simplicity and firmness of character reside and where a poet or a painter can find scenes more reflective, to intensify their imagination. Possessing great beauty, history and charm, it treasures something for everyone.

The beauty of Kashmir surpasses all imagination and anticipation. It is indeed, not without reason that the Moguls called Kashmir the terrestrial paradise of the earth. It is one of the world's natural beauty spots, located at the crossroads of the ancient silk road, where the Moguls built their lakeside summer palaces to escape the heat of the plains.

Kanyakumari Hotels

Kanyakumari (also spelt as Kanniyakumari) district is bounded by Tirunelveli district in the north and northeast, by Kerala state in the northwest and confluence of Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean in the west and south. The coastline is almost regular except for some points of land projecting into the sea at Cape Comorin. Kanyakumari is the district headquarters of the district of the same name.

At the southern most land tip of India, where the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet, lies Kannyakumari, an important pilgrim centre. Kannyakumari is famous for its beach and the spectacular sunrises and sunsets, especially on full moon days. Kanyakumari is also famous for its vast green stretches of paddy fields, rich forests, coconut groves and mineral sands.

All seven gates into the old city remain, one of which leads into Johari Bazaar - the famous jewellers' market that has the best selection of precious stones in India.

Jaipur is now a thriving commercial city and at the last count it was home to two million people. Although some visitors are put off by the over zealous traders, most are enthralled and enchanted by this still-welcoming city.

Indore is spread out along the two small rivulets, Saraswati and Khan, which unite at the centre of the city where a small 18th century temple of Sangamnath exists. The tariff: An astounding $5,000 (about Rs 225,000) per night.

Styled after the architecture of Sir Edwin Lutyen, the famous English architect who built Delhi over 20 years in the early 20th century, the furniture and artifacts in the room reflect his designs. Aptly the suite offers views of Lutyen's Delhi.

The ten-room suite -- two master bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a pantry, a workout area, a library, a vanity room, a powder room, a bathroom -- is equipped with Italian Frette linen, Bose speakers, a personal treadmill, an IBM thinkpad and state-of-the-art Avaya digital phones.

The Grand Presidential Suite has recently played host to guests like Australian Prime Minister John Howard, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, French President Jacques Chirac, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, Japanese Premier Junichiro Koizumi and then Israeli Premier Ariel Sharon among others.

Interestingly, both then US President Bill Clinton and current American President George W Bush chose to stay in the $1,500 (Rs 67,500)-a-night Presidential Suite at the Maurya Sheraton for security reasons.

New Delhi is also home to the $1,800-a-night (about Rs 81,000) Curzon Suite at Oberoi Hotels.

Mumbai too has its fair share of plush hotel rooms. They don't come with New Delhi price tags but one night at the Taj's Grand Presidential Suite close to the magnificent Gateway of India will set you back $3,500 (about Rs 157,500).

Located in one of India's oldest hotels, this palatial suite with Italian marble floors and old-time grandeur offers a patio overlooking the harbour, a balcony in the shadow of the Gateway, a master bedroom and a living-dining room.

The hotel, which was built in 1903 in a combination of Moorish, Oriental and Florentine styles, boasts alabaster ceilings, onyx pillars, exotic furnishings and 1920s Bombay-under-the-British-Raj charm.

In recent years the Presidential Suite or the adjoining and equally fancy Rajput Suite have hosted Prince Charles, Mohamed VI the king of Morocco, novelist Salman Rushdie, singer Tina Turner, Olympian legend Carl Lewis, actor Richard Gere, actress Jane Fonda, philanthropist David Rockefeller, mathematician Professor John (A Beautiful Mind) Nash, Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and plenty of princes, princesses and heads of State.

Mumbai has a couple of nearly as expensive rooms in other hotels like $2,500 (about Rs 112,500) Kohinoor Suite at The Oberoi on Marine Drive and $1,800 (about Rs 81,000) Presidential Suite at the ITC Hotel Grand Central Sheraton & Towers in central Mumbai.

No.3 Grand Presidential Suite, Taj Rambagh Palace, Jaipur
Kohinoor Suite, Oberoi Rajvilas
Grand Presidential Suite Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur

The scorching sands of Rajasthan have for centuries been dotted with hordes of enchanting palaces and havelis owned by some of the 560 royal dynasties that once ruled India.

Today these mahals house some of the most exotic and magical hotels in the world. Hotels with lavishly expensive rooms, furnished with period pieces overlooking fantastic gardens, verandahs and grounds, evoking another epoch.

It is an eye-ball popping $3,500 (about Rs 157,500) per night at the Grand Presidential Suite at the 47-acre Taj Rambagh Palace Jaipur, India's first palace hotel; $3,000 (about Rs 135,000) a night at the Oberoi Rajvilas in the same city.

At the yellow sandstone Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur and the white marble Taj Lake Palace, in the centre of Lake Pichola, Udaipur, accommodation in their top suites, outfitted with rainforest showers, marble bathtubs, jacuzzis, crystal chandeliers, high priced art, are $3,500 (about Rs 157,500) per night. At the Oberoi's Udaivilas in Udaipur one night at the Kohinoor Suite is a stiff $3,000 (about Rs 135,000) per night.

This stunning, one-of-a-kind view comes for a fortune at the Kohinoor Suite at the Oberoi Amar Vilas at Agra. Even the bathroom peeks at the Taj.

Isn't $3,000 (about Rs 135,000) per night quite justified?

Thrown in for that price are facilities like a private pantry, a terrace sit out, separate living and dining rooms and a study.

Famous guests: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and his wife Sehba.

Goa has been recently rated the best bargain holiday destination in the world and -- surprise, surprise -- expensive hotel rooms are pretty hard to come by in this hippie paradise.

But like the Indian cricket team or Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the princess of Thailand, or Profesor Gilber Bukenya, the vice-president of Uganda, you too can stay at villas exceeding $400 (about Rs 18,000) at this resort.

One night at the luxurious Presidential Villa with its private pool and view of fabulous beaches, is priced at $2,750 (about Rs 123,750) per night. You can be spoiled by a 24-hour private butler service and a massage at your private pavilion.
